Alabama's Original Curling Club
OUR CLUB
Founded in 2018, the Rocket City Curling Club is the first club in Alabama dedicated to the Winter Olympic sport of curling. We currently curl at the Ice Sports Center in Huntsville, AL.
If you've ever wanted to try curling yourself, join us for one of our upcoming Learn To Curls! Our 90-minute classes are fun and informal, and once you've learned the basics, you're ready to play in one of our weekly curling leagues.
New leagues start three to four times a year, and we're always looking for new members! No equipment is necessary—our club has brooms and sliders for members to borrow. Send us an email if you have any questions or if you're looking to learn more.
FALL LEAGUES
The Rocket City Curling Club's weekly fall curling leagues are underway!
Our open and beginner leagues started the weekend of September 20, mostly taking place on Saturday evenings through December. If you've been to a Learn to Curl (with us or another club) and you're a Rocket City CC member, you're eligible to play!
You can sign up a full team or join us as an individual "free agent"; RCCC members of all skill levels are also welcome and encouraged to play as league substitutes. Send us an email if you'd like to get involved and we'll see you on the ice!
WHAT IS CURLING?
If you're reading this, you've probably seen curling on TV—maybe even when Team USA won gold in 2018—and wondered what the heck is going on. There's a bunch of rocks, there's some yelling... and what are those guys with the brooms doing, anyway?
First played in Scotland over 500 years ago, curling is now one of the fastest-growing Olympic sports in the world, particularly in the southern United States. Curling is an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together to compete and socialize, with a focus on mutual respect and good sportsmanship.
We love our sport, and we think you will too. Check out this two-minute video from Curling Canada (or this longer intro from USA Curling) to learn more about the game—then contact us and find out how to join the fun!
FIRST NATIONAL MEDAL!
Congratulations to the Rocket City Curling Club's Team Curtis (from left: David Tutwiler, Sam Curtis, Shane Stewart, Brad Hammond), who recently won the club's first-ever medal at a national curling tournament!
Team Curtis took home the bronze at USA Curling's 2024 Arena Nationals championship, for clubs without dedicated curling ice. Rocket City defeated Team Tesch, of Cedar Rapids Curling, 9-6 in the bronze medal match, after beating four-time champions Team Myers 7-0 in the Arena Nationals quarterfinals.
Thanks to USA Curling and the Wausau Curling Club for hosting this event!
