Alabama's Original Curling Club
Founded in 2018, the Rocket City Curling Club is the first club in Alabama dedicated to the Winter Olympic sport of curling. We currently curl at the Ice Sports Center in Huntsville, AL.
If you've ever wanted to try curling yourself, join us for one of our upcoming Learn To Curls! Our 90-minute classes are fun and informal, and once you've learned the basics, you're ready to play in one of our weekly curling leagues.
New leagues start three to four times a year, and we're always looking for new members! No equipment is necessary—our club has brooms and sliders for members to borrow. Send us an email if you have any questions or if you're looking to learn more.
The Rocket City Curling Club's weekly fall curling leagues are underway!
Our open and beginner leagues take place on Saturday evenings, starting on September 23. If you've been to a Learn to Curl (with us or another club) and you're a Rocket City CC club member, you're eligible to play!
Signups for our fall leagues are now closed, but RCCC members of all skill levels are welcome and encouraged to play as league substitutes. Send us an email if you'd like to get involved and we'll see you on the ice!
WHAT IS CURLING?
If you're reading this, you've probably seen curling on TV—maybe even when Team USA won gold in 2018—and wondered what the heck is going on. There's a bunch of rocks, there's some yelling... and what are those guys with the brooms doing, anyway?
First played in Scotland over 500 years ago, curling is now one of the fastest-growing Olympic sports in the world, particularly in the southern United States. Curling is an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together to compete and socialize, with a focus on mutual respect and good sportsmanship.
We love our sport, and we think you will too. Check out this two-minute video from Curling Canada (or this longer intro from USA Curling) to learn more about the game—then contact us and find out how to join the fun!
GNCC ARENA CHAMPIONS!
The Rocket City Curling Club was pleased to host the 2023 GNCC Arena Championship this June, bringing together some of the top curling teams, from Massachusetts to New Mexico, that usually compete on hockey ice (rather than a dedicated curling facility).
Rocket City CC teams won three out of the four events at GNCC Arenas—including the overall GNCC Arena Championship! Thanks to everyone who participated and volunteered at this tournament, and to the Grand National Curling Club for allowing the RCCC the opportunity to host our first regional curling championship.
